Oriental Sails

Halong Bay route·2-3 days·Departs daily
★★★★★5.0 / 10EXPERT SCORE

A 3-star wooden junk on Halong Bay from the Oriental Sails Group, built in 2009 with traditional Vietnamese styling. Three decks (lower, upper, sundeck) and 18 medium-sized staterooms, a restaurant-bar serving local seafood, and a rooftop sundeck for sunbathing, sightseeing and cocktails. Simple and budget-friendly - expect classic wood decor rather than modern luxury.

OUR VERDICT

Oriental Sails is the budget pick of the Halong fleet: a 2009 wooden junk carrying the lowest per-cabin rate we list, yet it still packs in the classic hits of Sung Sot Cave, a Titop Island climb, Luon Grotto kayaking and a cooking class. Just book it knowing what it is - a single 12m2 Deluxe category with no balcony or bathtub, a boat that shows its age, and the busy main Halong channel rather than the quieter Lan Ha or Bai Tu Long. Fine for a value-minded one-nighter with an authentic junk feel; not the boat if you want a room to linger in, a second cabin tier, or water to yourself.

Q
Is this an old boat?

Yes - Oriental Sails is a 2009 wooden junk and shows some wear, so picture a simple budget boat rather than a luxury cruise. Cabins are en-suite with A/C, minibar and a walk-in shower, and the draw is the low price plus the classic Sung Sot Cave + Titop Island route

HALONG CRUISE LINE TEAM
Q
Is there a nicer or bigger cabin option?

On Oriental Sails the sold category is a single 12m² Deluxe Cabin (double or twin) - there's no suite or private-balcony option here. If you want a larger or higher-end room, a different boat would fit better
