Phoenix Cruise
A 3.5-star junk launched in 2014 on Halong Bay, blending Indochina rustic charm with classic Vietnamese elegance. Three decks and 22 cabins with panoramic bay views: deck 1 has 14 Deluxe Ocean View cabins plus reception and a spa room, deck 2 has the dining room, 6 Suite Ocean View and 2 Royal Suites, and the sundeck carries a gazebo bar with sun loungers. One of the better-value budget cruises in Halong.
Scored by our Halong cruise team, who spend their season on these waters. We rate each boat the way a returning guest would - cabins, dining, crew, itinerary and value - not the way a listing does.
Phoenix is an honest budget pick: a 2014 Indochina-style junk running Ha Long's greatest-hits route (Titop Island, Sung Sot Cave, Tung Sau Pearl Farm) for around $121 a guest, with kayaking and a cooking demo included. The two Royal Suite Balcony cabins (30m2, private balcony and bathtub) are the ones to book; the standard 18m2 Deluxe and Suite rooms are compact and window-only. Just know this is the busy main Ha Long channel rather than quieter Lan Ha or Bai Tu Long, and onboard extras stop at a small spa and a sundeck bar, so there is no pool, gym or lift.
