Viet Sails is a budget junk boat sailing the quieter Bai Tu Long Bay. It keeps the traditional Vietnamese wooden-junk design but is fitted to international standards, with cabins across two decks, a bow restaurant seating about 36, bars in both the dining room and on the rooftop sundeck. It's strong on food and itinerary for a budget boat, with the trade-off being small cabins without balconies.

Viet Sails is a genuine budget find: a traditional wooden junk on the quieter Bai Tu Long route, where you kayak Cap La's hidden lagoons and tour Thien Canh Son Cave with far fewer boats around than central Halong. At roughly $133 a guest it is the value pick of its wave, and the food and itinerary punch above the price. Just go in clear-eyed: the 12-13m2 cabins are compact with sea-view windows but no balcony, there is no lift (two decks of stairs), and every cabin sleeps only two, so families need to book a pair.
