Treasure Junk
Treasure Junk is a steel-hull traditional junk launched in 2017 and renovated in 2020, sailing the quieter Bai Tu Long Bay. Three decks hold 14 cabins and up to 30 guests: a cozy restaurant on the 2nd deck and a sundeck with an open-air bar and tai chi space on top. The two-day route explores the Cong Do area by kayak and the Vung Vieng fishing village by bamboo boat.
Scored by our Halong cruise team, who spend their season on these waters. We rate each boat the way a returning guest would - cabins, dining, crew, itinerary and value - not the way a listing does.
Treasure Junk is a small steel-hull junk (launched 2017, renovated 2020) that trades facilities for intimacy: just 14 cabins and up to 30 guests on the calmer waters of Bai Tu Long Bay, away from the Halong core crowds. The two 43m2 Suite Ocean Views are genuinely lovely with a private balcony and Jacuzzi, but they are the only real upgrade, since the other twelve cabins are a snug 14m2 and there is no pool, gym or elevator on board. Kayaking at Cong Do, the bamboo-boat visit to Vung Vieng and a cooking class are all included, which makes the roughly $123-per-guest starting rate good value for a one-night escape. Just go in knowing this is a modest boat rather than a luxury one, and that the prices are still indicative.
